OHL POWERLINE INSPECTIONS

UAV Power line inspection services can be a vital time and money saving component of any utility company's inspection processes.

In addition to the safety and cost benefits, the Power and Utility industry can now reap the benefits of 3D mapping from using a professional Unmanned Aerial Vehicle to conduct live power line inspections. With UAV technology you can now inspect your assets live, allowing you to focus more attention on repairing identified problems rather than using up valuable circuit outage time for fault finding.

Drone For Canada utilizes the most up to date technology to deliver the most accurate results:

  • State of the art image acquisition software and image processing

  • 3D images of any structure with a mean projection error of +2 inches per pixels

Drone For Canada facilitates high tech surveying and mapping services, with a focused commitment to providing highly accurate, measurable data to our clients. The 3D formats and georeferenced data we deliver improve visualization and the ability for engineers and architects to design in 3D.

Drone For Canada has surveyed numerous buildings, energy facilities, renovation projects and environmental projects.

STAGE 1 – PROJECT DEFINITION & DEFECT STANDARD CREATION

Drone For Canada’s extensive industry knowledge and experienced engineers provide an engineering consultancy service to assist our customers with the design of their asset management solution. A defect standard document will be created with a condition rating scale and include example images for each component’s failure mechanism. This approach ensures defects are categorized to the client’s requirements and ensures consistency.

STAGE 2 – DATA COLLECTION

Drone For Canada asset management system can take inspection data collected from multiple sources including:

  • Drones – Drone For Canada UAV inspection solution delivers comprehensive close visual inspection and significantly improves safety by reducing ‘at height’ working and limiting exposure to live powerlines.

  • Helicopters – Drone For Canada has relationships with a number of helicopter companies who specialize in OHL inspection data capture

  • Ground station  – Our tablet based inspection application allows the inspection of transmission and distribution towers by linesman from the ground.

STAGE 3 – INSPECTION CENTRE

At Drone For Canada inspection centers, teams of industry engineers use proprietary software to inspect, categorize and report on the location and condition of each component, in accordance with the agreed defect standard.

STAGE 4 – REPORTING MATRIX

Typically, thousands of high definition images and gigabytes of inspection data are generated. To allow our customers to efficiently use this data and to improve decision making, we have developed a traffic light colour coded dashboard, providing an at a glance status of each line to aid maintenance prioritization.

STAGE 5 – Drone For Canada INSPECTION VIEWER

Results are delivered in Drone4Canada Drone4Canada inspection viewer. Tower inspection can be reported in either a standard format or in a bar-by-bar format, where every individual bar is inspected and categorized so that decisions can be made to replace individual bars on a tower.

STAGE 6 – Drone For Canada POWERLINE – MAINTENANCE

Building on Drone For Canada’s comprehensive inspection data, Drone For Canada Powerline Maintenance Management Software allows our clients to query inspection information, generate works orders and send them to tablet computers in the field. Once linesman have executed the work, images are taken of the repaired problems and uploaded back into Drone For Canada’s servers after manager approval.
